Historic District

In 2009, the Main Street Historic District was formally designated by National Register of Historic Places. Townscape produced a history of Millerton and conducted a historical survey of all of the buildings within the Village of Millerton. Designation as a historic district with the National Register of Historic Places provides a focus for restoration, and gives property owners eligibility for tax incentives when restoring their properties. In addition, the historic designation provides a draw for tourism to the Village, creates educational opportunities in the local schools and community organizations, and qualifies the Village for specialized improvement grants.

In 2016 Townscape installed two “Historic District” signs at either end of Main Street to delineate the historic district boundaries. During that same year the North East Historical Society published a free “Walking Tour of Historic Millerton” brochure which was distributed through local businesses and promoted by Townscape.
